A farm mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of the farm machinery and facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, extensive knowledge of equipment, diesel, hydraulic and electrical systems, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, filter replacements, checking batteries, and ongoing checks needed to maintain equipment, vehicles, and machinery
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in all farming equipment including but not limited to: tractors, forklifts, pickups, mowers, farming implements, scissor lift, hydrolift, snow plow, mowers, and hand equipment
- In collaboration with others, help maintain and perform preventative maintenance or repair throughout the farm, which requires industrial, refrigeration, mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately
- Performs other duties and tasks as needed to help support the success of our family farm.
Qualifications:
Technical skills
- Previous experience as a mechanic or technician, with a focus on motor vehicles and farm equipment.
- Demonstrated expertise as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, with a proven track record in diesel, hydraulic/hydrostatic, fuel and electrical repair skills.
- Welding / fabricating experience, preferred
- Proficient with computers and interpreting schematics and technical manuals.
- Certificates from prior technical training, with emphasis on diesel engines, hydraulic/hydrostatic systems, fuel systems, and electrical components is preferred.
Personal skills
- Attention to detail, organizational proficiency, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical ability to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 50 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
- Capable of working in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, rain, along with potential elements like dust, dirt, and noise.
- Reliable, self-motivated professional
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work overtime and one day of the weekend as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers license
- Authorized to work in the United States
