Blueberry Bash
What better way to share our spectacular blueberries than with a Blueberry Bash. Join us on Saturday and Sunday, June 27th and 28th from 10am to 5pm as we celebrate “everything blueberry.” Wander through our Pick-Your-Own blueberry bushes and enjoy the sight and scent of these fabulous berries. Because blueberries grow on bushes, they are easily accessible to all.
(Sorry to announce that all the ripe berries were picked on Saturday, June 27--we had a lot of people. Meanwhile, there are lots of already picked blueberries in the farm store and the festival will continue on Sunday. There are lots more berries on the bushes and more will be ripe for picking starting Wednesday, July 1)
You’ll know which berries are ready for picking by their appearance. The choicest berries are firm, plump, dark blue, and covered with a frosty sheen. The natural sheen gives blueberries a just-picked “bloom” that people find so attractive and appetizing. Green or reddish berries are not yet ripe. Unlike some other fruits, blueberries only ripen when left on the bush. So, pass over the unripe berries to give them some additional time to mature. For your convenience, the Farm Store has special picking baskets for you to use.
After you’ve picked your blueberries, relax and enjoy some country music. Music on Saturday will be by Riverside Bluegrass and on Sunday it will be Mitchel's Cajun Aces (12 noon to 4 each day). Hop on one of
our tractor-drawn wagons for a ride through our lush orchards and fields planted with summer crops. This is part of what makes Terhune Orchards such a special place. Pony rides, music, and entertainment are available for the children.
Enjoy "St. George and the Dragon" puppet show presented by Tuckers' Tales Puppet Theatre on Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon and 2 pm. Join the fun as St. George and his foe dispatch the old for the new, and rise again to begin anew! Suitable for ages 4 to adult.
