Granny Smith Apples
Granny
Smith apples, now grown at Terhune Orchards, originated in Australia around the
mid-1800s from what was thought to be a discarded French crabapple. The new
apple variety thrived and later arrived in England in 1935. Today, Granny Smith
grows in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and parts of Europe and North
America; however, it requires a long growing season to develop its unique
flavor. The hard and juicy flesh protected by a durable, bright green peel
makes this apple delicious for eating out of hand and perfect for tangy apple
pies. Come to the Farm Store and try our own
Granny Smith apples!
